Our solitaire diamonds are GIA certified. Founded in 1931, The Gemological Institute of America—or GIA—is a nonprofit research and education institute, which aims to protect the buyers and sellers of precious gemstones by setting and maintaining standards of gemstone quality. In 1953 GIA developed its International Diamond Grading System, and the Four Cs system (cut, clarity, color, and carat weight). This system studies and determines the value of diamonds.
The diamond color evaluation of most gem-quality white diamonds is based on the absence of color. A chemically pure and structurally perfect diamond has no hue, and consequently, a higher value. D-to-Z diamond color-grading system measures the degree of colorlessness.
Many of these color distinctions are so subtle that they are invisible to the untrained eye, but they make an immense difference in the quality of a diamond. Diamonds are renowned for their ability to transmit light and sparkle so intensely. Precise artistry and workmanship are required to cut a stone so that its proportions, symmetry, and polish deliver the magnificent return of light only possible in a diamond.
Diamond clarity refers to the absence of inclusions and blemishes. Natural diamonds are the result of carbon when it’s exposed to tremendous heat and pressure deep in the earth. This process can result in a variety of internal characteristics called ‘inclusions’ and external characteristics called ‘blemishes.’ Small crystals can become trapped in a diamond when it’s forming. No diamond is perfectly clear, but its value is based on its level of purity.
Diamonds symbolize love and commitment—symbolically and physically, they are a dichotomy of complexity and simplicity. Every diamond on earth has its own DNA (the 4’C’s) that make it one of a kind and help us to classify it. Like fingerprints, these characteristics symbolize the unique qualities we have as humans, reminding us that something beautiful doesn’t have to be perfect. We’ve cultivated relationships with diamond sellers that we trust, and who pay careful attention to the sourcing and quality of each of their diamonds.
